Awareness as a way of being

Beyond the Personality

Awareness based therapy begins with the understanding that we are more than our thoughts, emotions, personality, and life story. Beneath these changing experiences is a deeper capacity for awareness that can observe them without becoming completely identified with them.

This idea has been explored for thousands of years in contemplative traditions, but it does not require a spiritual worldview. It also appears throughout psychology, from Jung's concept of the Self to contemporary mindfulness based therapies, and is increasingly being studied by neuroscience and psychedelic research. Although each uses different language, they point toward a similar insight: awareness itself may play a central role in psychological transformation.

Awareness in Practice

  • Awareness in Therapy

Present in every experiential session. We slow down, turn attention inward, and become curious about what is unfolding in the moment.

  • Mindfulness Approaches

I integrate ACT, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindful Self Compassion, and related mindfulness based approaches.

  • Awareness Practice

I offer groups for those interested in cultivating a regular awareness practice through guided meditation and experiential exercises.

A Different Way of Being

As awareness becomes more available, experience begins to change in subtle but meaningful ways. Thoughts lose some of their grip. Emotions still arise, but they no longer carry us away as easily. We become less reactive, more present, and more able to meet ourselves and others with curiosity instead of judgment.

Many people describe feeling more spacious, grounded, and alive. Life itself has not changed, but the place from which we meet it has.

Ways of Practicing

Sessions draw from a range of awareness practices, including effortless mindfulness, self compassion, embodied awareness, inquiry, and contemplative exercises. The emphasis is on direct experience rather than theory.
